Place Vendôme is the most prestigious place in the French capital.
During the French Revolution, the square was renamed Place des Piques and, during the Commune of Paris, it was called Place Internationale.
On this octagonal square, Napoleon Bonaparte placed a column of triumph 44 meters high in 1810, called Colonne Vendôme. During the Commune of Paris, this column was withdrawn, but after the uprising it was restored. The Ritz is also located on the square. In addition, there are several well-known jewelers such as Chanel, Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, Dior, Rolex, Breguet, Bulgari, Patek Philippe and Boucheron. It is at number 12 of this majestic place that the famous composer Frederic Chopin died.
The town plan of the square, which all owners had to admit, was designed by Jules Hardouin-Mansart in 1699. A large part of the facades are protected as a historical monument.
