The Musée du Quai Branly is a major ethnographic museum located in the 7th arrondissement of Paris, near the Eiffel Tower. On June 23, 2006, it was officially opened by former French President Jacques Chirac. The museum is continuing its plan to leave the French capital with a sustainable cultural monument that will survive it. Just as President Pompidou in the seventies gave its name to the Center Georges Pompidou.
The museum, designed by the architect Jean Nouvel, covers 40 600 m² of its four buildings.
To emphasize a natural effect, a wall of 200m long and 12m high outside is planted with plants. This was designed by the French botanist Patrick Blanc.
The collection is a fusion of the ethnographic collection of the Museum of Man and the National Museum of Arts of Africa and Oceania. There are 3500 exhibits, with a total collection of 300,000 pieces. There is a collection of artistic treasures from five continents. Thus, the museum aims to create an interaction between different cultures. There are regular exhibitions.
