Hotel in Pigalle between Montmartre and Opéra

One foot in the buzz of Pigalle, the other in the quiet backstreets of Montmartre.

A crossroads of history

Between cabarets, artists' studios and grand boulevards

Rue Victor Massé slips between three faces of Paris: to the north, the slopes of Montmartre and its artists' studios; to the west, the nightlife buzz of Pigalle and its iconic Moulin Rouge; to the south, the Haussmannian grandeur of the Opéra Garnier.

This diversity is what makes the neighbourhood so appealing: you can wander aimlessly, or head straight to the capital's major sights, most of which are less than twenty minutes away by metro.

In Degas's footsteps

A street inhabited by painting

In 1859, the painter Edgar Degas set up his studio at n°13 rue de Laval (the former name of rue Victor Massé), at the very address of the Hôtel Migny. He stayed there until the early 1870s. It was during these years that he painted Dance Class at the Opera (1872), now held at the Musée d'Orsay, about twenty minutes from the hotel.

Even today, rue Victor Massé keeps that residential calm that must have appealed to the painter: away from the bustle, yet steps from everything.
