The Basilica of the Sacred Heart is one of Paris’s most iconic landmarks. Situated at the top of Montmartre Hill, in the 18th arrondissement, it overlooks the capital and offers one of the most beautiful panoramic views of Paris.
Construction began in the late 19th century and the basilica was consecrated in 1919; it is instantly recognisable for its Roman-Byzantine architecture and white stone. Its dome, visible from many parts of Paris, has become one of the symbols of Montmartre.
A visit to the Sacré-Cœur is also an opportunity to explore the Montmartre neighbourhood, with its narrow streets, stairways, artists and the famous Place du Tertre.
From the Hôtel Migny Opéra-Montmartre, you can easily reach the basilica on foot by walking through the Pigalle neighbourhood and then heading up towards Montmartre. To reach the top of the hill, you can take the steps or the Montmartre funicular.
