Saint-Germain-des-Prés is a residential and tourist district of the sixth and seventh arrondissement of Paris, on the left bank of the Seine.
The neighborhood has been built since the middle ages around the abbey of Saint-Germain-des-Prés.
After the Second World War, the residential area of Saint-Germain-des-Prés became a gathering place for cultural events and experiences. The great philosophers, artists and classics of the time, such as Jean-Paul Sartre, Simone de Beauvoir, Juliette Gréco, Jean-Luc Godard and François Truffaut, lived in cafés and brasseries. Nowadays, famous fashion designers like Giorgio Armani, Christian Dior and Louis Vuitton have installed their shops there.
